Braintree's November 21 Holiday Markets Run on a 1 p.m. Clock

On Saturday, November 21, Braintree has three holiday sales on the same morning. Two of them open at 9 a.m. on or near Washington Street. The third starts an hour later on King Hill Road. Most of the day ends at 1 p.m., and if you plan around that hour, you can get through all three without rushing.

Here is how the day lines up, using times the organizers posted.

Sale Location Saturday, Nov. 21 Sunday, Nov. 22
Braintree Farmers Market Thanksgiving Holiday Market Town Hall Mall, One JFK Memorial Drive 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. No
Braintree Historical Society Biggest Barn Holiday Bazaar Gallivan House, 776 Washington Street Opens 9 a.m. Runs until 1 p.m.
Braintree Holiday Craft and Vendor Fair Sons of Italy, 161 King Hill Road 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. No

The 1 p.m. deadline is the key. The farmers market closes then. Ashley's Restaurant on Washington Street also stops serving breakfast and brunch at 1. The fair on King Hill Road runs one hour past that, and the Historical Society's bazaar is also listed for Sunday, ending at 1 p.m.

Start at Town Hall, Because It Only Happens Once

The Braintree Farmers Market ran its regular Saturdays from June 13 through October 10. On its own season post, the market calls the November date "the much anticipated Thanksgiving Holiday Market." The other two sales give you some extra time. This one doesn't. It runs four hours on one Saturday at the Town Hall Mall, and the regular market won't be back until next season.

The vendors' general list of goods covers most of a Thanksgiving table: produce, meats, seafood, eggs, cheeses, pies, baked goods, soups, preserves, Vermont maple syrup, locally roasted coffee, flowers and plants. If you're buying groceries for the following Thursday, the early part of the morning makes the most sense. The market is volunteer-run, and its season post describes it as a community organization with a Community Table for local nonprofits.

In 2025, the Thanksgiving market was set up both inside and in front of Town Hall, according to the market's own news page. For 2026, check the market's channels closer to the date for the setup.

Walk Up Washington Street Next, Knowing You Can Come Back

The Historical Society's bazaar and the farmers market both open at 9 a.m. The bazaar is the easier one to push to later. On the Society's event page, the bazaar runs from 9 a.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Sunday, November 22, and the description lists it at Gallivan House on both days. It is the only one of the three that is open on Sunday.

That gives you two ways to plan the weekend. If Saturday morning goes mostly to grocery shopping at Town Hall, you can save the bazaar for Sunday. If you want to see all three on Saturday, go to the bazaar right after the market. Either way, you still reach King Hill Road before the 2 p.m. close.

The Barn in the Name Is Not the Building You're Walking Into

The name can send people to the wrong address. The Historical Society runs two separate properties. On its campus page, the Gilbert L. Bean Barn is at 31 Tenney Road and Gallivan House is at 776 Washington Street. The bazaar's listing puts the event at Gallivan House.

Gallivan House is worth going inside for its own sake. The Society describes it as a brick colonial home built for Braintree physician John J. Gallivan. His medical practice was on the first floor, and his family lived upstairs. The Society also lists the house as not currently open to the public. On a normal weekend, you only see it from the sidewalk.

The barn the event is named for is a colonial-style building holding colonial-era artifacts. An addition houses the Mary Bean Cunningham Resource Center and the Society's library. The Society says that collection includes Braintree town records dating from 1640 onward.

A few doors up from Gallivan House, the General Sylvanus Thayer Birthplace and Museum is at 786 Washington Street. The Society lists exhibits there on railway and military history, coopers, and period rooms. Thayer Public Library is a little farther up the same street at 798 Washington Street. With Gallivan House open, that stretch has three of its best-known buildings close together.

Brunch Ends at 1, Too

Plan your food stop the same way you plan the market. Ashley's Restaurant at 916 Washington Street is open 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays, and its site says it serves breakfast and brunch daily until 1 p.m. That's the same closing time as the farmers market.

So if you want a sit-down breakfast in the middle of the day, here's the order that works.

  1. Farmers market at Town Hall Mall when it opens at 9 a.m., while the pies and baked goods are fully stocked.
  2. Gallivan House at 776 Washington Street, or save it for Sunday.
  3. Ashley's at 916 Washington Street, before the 1 p.m. close.
  4. Sons of Italy at 161 King Hill Road, open until 2 p.m.

If you go in the opposite direction, you'll get to Ashley's or the market after they've closed. Two other breakfast-and-lunch places on Washington Street are Kristin's Breakfast & Lunch at 349 and Jozour Café at 391. Check their Saturday hours before you build the morning around either one.

King Hill Road Is the Last Stop

The Braintree Holiday Craft and Vendor Fair at Sons of Italy Braintree opens an hour after the other two and runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free. The organizer, New England Vendor Events, promotes local vendors and free photos with Santa.

The 1 to 2 p.m. hour there comes after the farmers market and Ashley's have closed. If you have young kids along, it also helps to finish at the stop with the Santa photos.

Twelve Days Later, Town Hall Again

Braintree's next big holiday weekend centers on Town Hall again. Braintree's Festival of Trees has announced December 3 through 6. Its posted schedule starts with an outdoor tree lighting at 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 3, followed by the festival indoors from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The same schedule lists a holiday stroll from the Braintree Firehouse to Town Hall at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 5. The organizers call it a sample schedule that could change, so check their page before you put a time on the calendar.

That makes November 21 and December 3 the first two dates of Braintree's holiday season, and both are centered on the same Town Hall grounds. The first one runs on morning hours with a 1 p.m. close. The second one starts after dark.
